"Where have you been all my life?" That's the question I asked Jay after we completed principal photography on our current epic WW1 docudrama television miniseries.   Jay's in-depth knowledge of history, military tactics, costumes, weapons, war machines, special effects, and pyrotechnics, along with his passionate yet cool, calm, and collected demeanor, infectious personality, and overall work ethic makes him among the top five professionals in any specialty I've ever worked with.  Jay inspires the rest of his team, knows how to manage and support them, and has the producer's back every step of the way, not just fixing things after a problem arises but seeing it way ahead of time and designing a plan to prevent it.  If I need Jay for a project and you're also trying to hire him, believe me, you won't be able to afford him.  I'll make sure of it."

William Martens, p.g.a. ~ Emmy nominated Producer & multiple Gold Telly Award winner

"Just wanted to say thank you for an incredible day yesterday!! I couldn't be happier with how our Civil War battles and procession turned out. Beyond thrilled."
Valerie Weiss, d.g.a. ~ Director/Award-winning Filmmaker

"Jay is an incredible font of knowledge. I worked with him on a show where he served as Historical Advisor and SFX Supervisor and he did both jobs better than most could have done one of them.  Jay's knowledge of military history is absolutely incredible. He could site specific models of tanks, guns, boats, and knew exactly what uniform was worn by whom, and how it was worn.  In SPFX he was excellent in creating realistic explosions, muzzle flashes, and everything else that was required by the show. He anticipated the needs of the production and always had options to create effects that were both realistic and beautiful to look at.   Jay is a total straight shooter (sic!).  If he says he can do something, believe him."
Sam Edwards ~ Primetime Emmy Nominated VFX Supervisor

"Jay brings energy and precision to everything he touches. His extensive knowledge and passion for historic detail is infectious, resulting in stunningly authentic images in any period.   I can't wait to work with him again."
Michael Bartlett ~ Award-winning Director/Producer & Writer

"I hope you know that all your extra effort was not only noticed, but also greatly respected by Ryan (Director), myself, and the rest of the crew.  It’s rare to find seasoned professionals like yourself who make it their business to actually care about the project they’re working on, and not just do what’s required for their job.  Seeing your commitment to the overall success of our production went a long way to inspire the rest of our cast and crew, and I have no doubt that we wouldn’t have all accomplished what we did without you."                              T. Justin Ross ~ Producer "TCM"

"I can think of no individual I would rather endorse than Jay Lance. He is a consummate professional, extremely well educated in his craft, highly detail oriented, fun to work with, and a stand up and be counted human being.  As a Director of Photography, it is vital that accuracy be attended to by anyone that puts anything in front of my camera.  I never as much as once, on a very difficult, complicated, and technically challenging feature film shoot, had to ever even think about whether Jay would bring me anything but perfection. If there were a grade above A+ I could give him, I would.  But A+ will have to suffice."
James Civis ~ Owner, Civis Media Arts

"Jay Lance is a true pro. His knowledge in a wide array of disciplines is vast, from period wardrobe to weaponry to prop fabrication... you name it. He is always up to a challenge and will always bring a great result.  Above all else, he is a good person. Full of energy and enthusiasm, he would be a valuable asset to any film production."
Jason Freeman ~ Director/Producer, Polluted Pictures

"I have worked with Jay as an Expert Historical and Military Consultant and Producer on several Film and TV related titles and projects.  He is both an excellent resource and human being.  His depth and breadth of knowledge on most anything historical in nature continues to amaze.   He has proven to be a valuable resource in his creative problem solving skills in a producer role and has a keen attention to detail.  He is most definitely a "first call" staff member."                                                                                                    Thad Smith ~ Award-winning Director/Owner, One Eighty Films

"...Your outstanding performance and willingness to accommodate our every need exemplify your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.  I sincerely appreciate your total dedication, and thank you for a job very well done."                                                                                                                            Brig. General Klick, USAF ~ Defense Logistics Agency, U.S. Department of Defense

"....your contribution wasn’t small at all, it was massive and essential, and despite the bureaucracy involved in the making of this project you always kept a straight face with a little bit of a smile when possible.  I’ve been at the commission for almost 9 years now and in the industry for 13 years, productions come and go, and with that people come and go, but you are one of those people that leave with a good image behind that will always be remembered and mentioned, and I hope that our paths cross again, and I certainly hope to see you back here very soon.   I would like to thank you for everything you have done..."                                     Sharif Al-Majali ~ The Royal Film Commission - Jordan (الهيئة الملكية الأردنية للأفلام)

"Portland's finest historical consultant for film & media."
